Set your starter hazards

Keep the list of common hazards that a new venue risk assessment offers to start from.

Checked against the screens:

Every organisation can choose its own words for the people and roles it works with. When you are signed in, this guide uses your organisation’s words. Otherwise it uses the product’s own.

For managers and admins. Anyone else is shown a message instead of this page. Changes only affect assessments started from now on.

Steps

  1. Open Starter hazards from the Venues page.
  2. Read the list. It is what a new venue risk assessment offers to seed itself with.
  3. To add one, use Add a starter hazard. Fill in the category, description, who is at risk, and the controls.
  4. To change one, edit its fields and press Save.
  5. Use Move up and Move down to put them in the order you want.
  6. To stop one being offered, press Archive, then Archive it to confirm.
  7. To bring one back, find it under Archived and press Restore.

If it goes wrong

  • If a save fails, what you typed is still there. Try again in a moment.
  • If a move did not take, try it again. Nothing is lost.
  • If you change your mind about archiving, press Keep it.

How it links together

The list is copied into a new venue risk assessment when it is started. Later changes to the list do not alter assessments already begun.

What the list is for

When someone starts a venue risk assessment, they can seed it with these hazards instead of typing them. It saves time and keeps assessments consistent.

Every organisation starts with a built-in list of seven. This page adds to it, edits it, puts it in order and archives from there.

Who can see and change it

Only managers and admins see this page. Nobody else has a use for the list on its own, so there is no read-only view.

What each hazard holds

  • A category and a short description.
  • Who is at risk and how they would be harmed.
  • The controls that are normally in place.

Changes only look forward

Change the list and every assessment started from now on uses the new version. Assessments already started keep whatever they were seeded with.

If the list is empty

An empty list is not an error. A new assessment then falls back to the built-in list until you add your own.

Archiving instead of deleting

An archived hazard stops being offered but stays in the Archived list below. You can restore it at any time.

Questions people ask

Does editing the list change assessments we already have?

No. Only assessments started after the change use the new list.

Why can't I open this page?

It is for managers and admins. You will see a message saying so, with who to ask.

Can I delete a starter hazard?

You archive it instead. It stops being offered and can be restored later.

What if I archive them all?

A new assessment falls back to the built-in list until you add one of your own.

Where do I start an assessment from these hazards?

On the venue's risk assessment page, choose to seed the assessment from your organisation.

Can I change the order?

Yes. Use Move up and Move down on each hazard.
