Fix a plan that was sent back

Read why your plan came back, make the changes, and send it again in one press.

Checked against the screens:

Every organisation can choose its own words for the people and roles it works with. When you are signed in, this guide uses your organisation’s words. Otherwise it uses the product’s own.

Watch the last part: what happens afterwards.

For the mentor who planned the session. You are told when a manager sends a plan back, and the reason is in the message.

Steps

  1. Open the Planner and click the session. A plan that was returned carries Plan sent back.
  2. Read the note at the top. It gives the manager's reason in their own words.
  3. Press Make the changes. The plan opens ready to edit.
  4. Change what they asked for. Most returns are for a missing goal, intent or place.
  5. Press Resubmit planning. That one press saves your changes and sends the plan back.
  6. If Before you send it opens, add what is missing, or use Send anyway when it is offered.
  7. Open the session again. It should now show Plan awaiting manager.

If it goes wrong

  • Do not use Close and expect it to send. Only Resubmit planning sends the plan again.
  • A message says it could not be sent? Check your connection and press it once more.
  • Not sure what they wanted? Ask the manager who returned it.

A returned plan is not a returned write-up

These are two checks. The plan check is about your preparation, before the visit. The write-up check is about your account, after it. A returned write-up has its own button, Make requested changes, and its own guide.

One press, not two

While the form is open, the main button both saves and sends. There is no separate save to forget. If you have changed nothing and just need to send it again, the pop-up also offers Resubmit planning without opening the form.

What the manager sees

The plan goes back into the planning tab of the countersign queue. The manager reads it again and either signs it off or returns it with a new reason.

Why the goal and intent matter

Most plans that were returned lacked a linked goal or a stated intent. The prompt asks about both before it sends, so you can fix them at once.

Who can do this

The mentor the plan belongs to. A plan returned to someone else is not yours to rewrite, and the pop-up will be read only.

How it links together

When a manager returns a plan, you are sent a message with their reason, and the Planner marks the plan as sent back. Resubmitting puts it back in the planning tab of their queue. Nothing about the write-up changes. See the guide to plan checks for the checks, and the guide to reading a session in the Planner for the badges.

Questions people ask

How do I know a plan was sent back?

You get a message with the reason. In the Planner the plan carries Plan sent back, and the pop-up shows the reason at the top.

I made the changes but nothing was sent. Why?

You may have saved without sending. Press Resubmit planning. It saves and sends together.

Can I send it back without changing anything?

Yes. The pop-up offers Resubmit planning when the form is closed. Try to answer the reason first, or it may come back again.

Why is there no button to make changes?

You may be looking at someone else's plan, or watching a colleague. Ask the mentor the plan belongs to.

Where does the plan go after I resubmit?

Back to the manager's countersign queue, under the planning tab. Its label changes to Plan awaiting manager.

What if I disagree with the reason?

Talk to the manager who sent it back. Explain it in your plan notes if you resubmit, so they see why.
