For managers and admins. This page shows the ILP template: the sections and questions a new plan asks for. Others can read it. Only you can change it.
Steps
- Open Plan template in the manager section. The first card says the version and whether it is a draft or published.
- Published already? Press Open a new version, then Yes, open a new version. That copies it into a draft you can change.
- On the draft, edit the title, description, introduction and closing note, then press Save.
- For each section, change the Section wording and Help text, then press Save section. Reorder with Move section up and Move section down.
- For each question, change the Question wording and help, tick Must be answered if it is required, then press Save question.
- Read the whole page as a new plan will read it. Check the order.
- When you are happy, press Publish this template and then Yes, publish it.
If it goes wrong
- A save failed? Reload the page and try that one again. The message says nothing was saved.
- No edit boxes? The template is published or archived, and those are read only. Open a new version to change one.
- Not sure yet? Leave the draft as it is. A draft is not used until you publish it.
- Published too soon? Open a new version and publish that. Plans already written are not changed either way.
Draft, published and archived
- Draft: not in use yet. Every box is editable.
- Published: the version new plans use. Its wording and questions are fixed.
- Archived: an older version. Read only, with no button.
A published template cannot be edited in place. That keeps every plan already written readable exactly as it was. Opening a new version leaves the old one working until you publish the new one.
What publishing does
Every new plan written from then on asks for the published sections and questions. Plans already written are not changed or re-worded. The confirmation tells you how many sections and questions you are publishing.
Sections and questions
A section groups questions. A section marked Filled in once per goal repeats for every goal on the plan. A question tells you what kind of answer it takes, such as a short answer, a date or one from a list. Reorder questions with Move question up and Move question down.
Under each question a line says where the answer is saved. A question that is saved nowhere is flagged, because the answer would be asked for and lost. A technical detail link holds the exact field for the platform team.
Who can see and change it
Anyone allowed to see settings can read the template. Managers and admins can change it. If you cannot, the page says who can.

How it links together
The published template decides the sections and questions on every new ILP. Answers are saved onto the plan or each goal, and show on the young person's record, in goal pickers on the Planner and in reports. Plans already written keep their wording. See the learning plans guide and the guide to moving plans.
