Change or reset your password

Change your password while signed in, ask for a reset link if you forgot it, and confirm it is you for sensitive jobs.

Checked against the screens:

Every organisation can choose its own words for the people and roles it works with. When you are signed in, this guide uses your organisation’s words. Otherwise it uses the product’s own.

For anyone with an account. You choose your own password. Nobody at your organisation or at support needs to know it.

Steps

  1. To change it while signed in, open Settings, then Security, then Change password.
  2. Type your Current password. Then type a New password (≥ 12 chars) and repeat it in Confirm new password.
  3. Press Change password. You are signed out, so sign in again with the new one.
  4. If you forgot it, open the sign-in page and choose Forgot your password?.
  5. Enter the email you sign in with and press Send reset link. Open the newest email and follow its link.
  6. Choose a new password of at least twelve characters and sign in.
  7. If a page asks you to Confirm it’s you, type your Password again to carry on.

If it goes wrong

  • If the reset link has expired, go back to sign-in and ask for a new one. Use Back to sign in if you land on the wrong page.
  • If no email arrives, check junk mail and that you used the address on your account.
  • If you are told too many changes were tried, wait a few minutes and try again.

How it links together

Your password belongs to your sign-in. Changing it signs you out everywhere, and a reset link emails the address on your account.

Pages that need a fresh sign-in, such as erasing data, ask for it again. See the guides on setting up two-step sign-in and on signing in.

Changing your password while signed in

The Security page has a card called Change password. Open it, check your current password, and choose a new one. The page tells you that you will need to sign in again afterwards.

Save your work first. The change signs you out, and anything unsaved in another tab may be lost.

Choosing a good password

  • Use at least twelve characters. The form will not accept fewer.
  • Use a different password from every other site you use.
  • A few unrelated words is easier to remember than a short jumble.
  • Never share it, even with a colleague who is helping you.

If you forgot your password

On the sign-in page choose Forgot your password?. Enter the email you sign in with. We send a link that lets you set a new password.

Use the newest email only. Older links stop working. If your organisation uses two-step sign-in, you are asked for your code before the new password is saved.

Do not forward a reset link to anyone, including support. Anyone who holds the link could use it.

When you are asked to confirm it is you

Some jobs are sensitive, such as erasing data or reading the audit log. For those you must have signed in within the last five minutes.

The page Confirm it’s you shows your email and asks for your Password. There is no email box, so it can only confirm the account that is already signed in. When you confirm, you are returned to where you were.

If the page cannot load your sign-in

If confirmation cannot start, the page says so and offers Reload confirmation and Back to Home. Reload first. If it keeps failing, tell your admin or the platform team.

Questions people ask

Why am I signed out after changing my password?

It is a safety step. Sign in again with the new password and carry on.

How long must my password be?

At least twelve characters. The form refuses anything shorter.

The reset link says it has expired. What now?

Request a new one from the sign-in page and use that. Only the newest link works.

I never got a reset email.

Check junk mail and that you used the right address. Then ask your admin to confirm the email on your account.

Why does a page ask me for my password again?

Some jobs need a sign-in from the last five minutes. Type your password once and you will be returned to where you were.

Can I change someone else's password?

No. Each person sets their own. If someone is locked out, they use the reset link or you ask for a new invitation.
